Cards split with Hesperia

HESPERIA — The Big Rapids baseball team wrapped up league play by splitting with Hesperia on Thursday.
The Cardinals dropped the opener 4-3 despite out-hitting the Panthers 12 to 5. Big Rapids rebounded to take the second contest 5-3.
In the first game, Sterling Brinker allowed just the five hits. Joe Martinez, Derrick Defever, Evan Oudekirk and Justin Pierce all had two hits for Big Rapids.
Jordan Straub went the first four innings in the nightcap to earn the victory before giving way to Aaron Jensen. Brinker had four hits and a pair of RBIs, while Defever added three hits.
Oudekirk added two more hits.
Big Rapids is in action Wednesday when it travels to Beal City.
Pine River 3, 4, Farwell 0 ,3
LEROY — The Pine River baseball used two strong pitching performances in sweeping Farwell on Thursday.
The Bucks won the first game 3-0 before taking the second contest 4-3.
Lincoln Erickson pitched a no-hitter in earning the victory in the first game. He also struck out 11 batters.
Kyle Brock and Issac Wilkens each had two hits for the Bucks.
Nick Warner picked up the win in the second contest, scattering five hits and fanning eight batters. He also had two hits at the plate.
Derek Waldfogel had three hits and Skyler Nelson added a single and a RBI.
Pine River is in action Wednesday when it travels to Chippewa Hills.
