Man arrested for prowling at ex-girlfriend’s house

BIG RAPIDS — A Big Rapids man faces criminal charges after being arrested on his ex-girlfriend’s front porch early Sunday.

The 22-year-old man, whose name will be released pending arraignment, was arrested at 3:03 a.m. after looking into the windows of the woman’s bedroom at her home on the 900 block of Rose Avenue.

Officers found the man on the home’s front porch and discovered during investigation that he had damaged two vehicles belonging to his ex-girlfriend and her friend, who was staying at her house that night. The man broke out windows on the ex-girlfriend’s car and smashed the windshield on her friend’s car, causing more than $1,000 worth of damage, police said.

The man was arrested and charged with two counts of malicious destruction of property and one count of prowling, but could face additional charges. He was released from Mecosta County Jail on Monday and tentatively is scheduled to appear in court on June 20.
