POLICE BLOTTER: Man, woman arrested after violent Sunday dispute

BIG RAPIDS — Big Rapids Department of Public Safety officers responded to the following calls on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. All calls might not be reported.

Friday

  • A car versus deer accident was reported at 10:08 a.m. near the intersection of State Street and Knollview Drive.
  • A traffic accident occurred at 11:59 a.m. at the intersection of State Street and Perry Avenue when an 83-year-old Stanwood woman turned right onto State from Perry Avenue, pulling into the path of a 27-year-old Newwaygo man and causing him to rear-end her car. No one was injured.
  • A Big Rapids woman rear-ended a Florida woman who was waiting for another vehicle to turn at 5:32 p.m. at the intersection of State Street and Fuller Avenue. The Big Rapids woman was cited.

Saturday

  • A Middleville man was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated at 1:53 a.m. near the intersection of Olaf Street and Darwin Avenue.
  • During the investigation of a suspicious vehicle at 2 a.m. on the 300 block of Hemlock Drive, an officer cited five teenagers for being minors in possession of alcohol.
  • Officers were called at 2:14 a.m. to the 200 block of Second Avenue for a fight in progress. Everyone was gone when they arrived, but a 26-year-old Big Rapids man was arrested on a warrant from Newyago County.
  • A bike taken two weeks ago was reported from a house on the 400 block of South State Street was reported stolen at 7:17 p.m. The bike is an older style of Schwinn road bike with blue and orange tape on its curved handlebars.
  • Police were called at 8:59 p.m. to a home on the 400 block of South State Street where a mother and child got into a dispute.
  • Police were called at 11 p.m. to the 300 block of North Michigan Avenue where someone reported girls were trying to fight each other. No one was fighting when officers arrived.
  • Someone reported teenagers egging a car at 11:39 p.m. near the intersection of Woodward Avenue and Escott Street. They were gone when police arrived.
  • A 19-year-old Arizona woman was cited for being a minor in possession of alcohol and a 22-year-old Big Rapids man was cited for having an open intoxicant in a vehicle during a traffic stop at 11:48 p.m. on the 800 block of Maple Street.

Sunday

  • A 22-year-old Byron Center man was given a noise warning at 12:10 a.m. on the 1000 block of Fuller Avenue.
  • A 19-year-old Big Rapids woman and her 19-year-old boyfriend, also from Big Rapids, were arrested at 3:01 a.m. on the 200 block of Morrison Avenue after a domestic dispute. The woman was arrested for domestic violence and being a minor in possession of alcohol and charges for obstructing an officer and assaulting her boyfriend will be filed. The man was arrested for a malicious destruction of property.
  • A dog at large was reported at 11:40 a.m. on the 300 block of Woodward Avenue.
  • Littering was reported at 5:30 p.m. on the 300 block of North Michigan Avenue but police were unable to locate the suspect.
  • Drunk and disorderly people were reported at 7:27 p.m. on the 500 block of South Third Avenue, but they were gone when police arrived.
  • A dog at large was reported at 7:47 p.m. on the 400 block of Fuller Avenue.

 

Monday

  • A 23-year-old Farmington Hills man was arrested at 2:38 a.m. for stealing a “No Parking” sign and marquee letters from a business and for being in possession of more stolen letters from another signed.
  • Failure to pay for gas was reported at 5:30 p.m. on the 600 block of Maple Street.
  • A hit-and-run accident was reported on State and Maple streets at 7:19 p.m.
