City to purchase fire rescue truck

BIG RAPIDS — City commissioners are expected to approve on Monday the purchase of a four-wheel-drive fire rescue truck for the Big Rapids Department of Public Safety Fire Division.

The fire rescue truck is the most-used vehicle in the department’s fleet. It responds to every call, including medical emergencies, traffic crashes and injured persons.

The department’s current fire rescue truck — a 1996 GMC — is beginning to have mechanical issues, said Director Frank West.

Four vehicle bids were submitted, with Front Line Services of Freeland coming in with the lowest at $68,981. The department previously purchased its aerial ladder truck from Front Line Services.
