NANCY BERMEISTER: Heart guide offers information for men and women

To the editor:

The bad news is that heart disease still kills more people in the United States than all cancers, all upper respiratory disease and all accidents combined. It kills an estimated 420,000 women each year. More than 42 million women are living with heart disease.

The good news is that WomenHeart, the National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease, is working hard to educate and advocate for those living with or at risk of heart disease.

In fact, WomenHeart has created an excellent guide, useful for both women and men, to help control risk factors and prevent heart disease, “A Straight Talk: A Woman’s Guide to Heart Health” is available for free. It was inspired and developed by cardiologists and survivors. The guide provides insights from medical experts and an insider’s look at what women wish they had known before experiencing heart disease. You can download the guide from the “I am ProHeart” Facebook page.

This 14-page heart health guide is an excellent source of information for those who are at risk and those who want to avoid the risks. Please check it out! Go to the “I am ProHeart” Facebook page and download “Straight Talk: A Woman’s Guide to Heart Health.” Guys, it will help you too!
