Children at Mecosta Elementary School and the surrounding area were treated to an early Christmas gift when a couple of Santa’s reindeer visited the school on Dec. 15. The event was sponsored by the Wheatland Township Library and was held at the school to allow for more children to visit with the animals. Children from the school visited in groups while other’s visited the school with their parents. The reindeer were brought in from Rooftop Landing Reindeer Farm in Clare.

The children enjoyed the event so much they sent letters to the library thanking it for the opportunity. Fourth-graders at the school wrote letters while pre-school students made a display with photos of their time with the animals. Both are now on display at the library. Library director Becky Kurtz would like to incorporate reindeer visitations an annual event at different area schools.
