Lady Bulldogs inch toward division title with win over WSU

DETROIT — Ferris State’s women’s basketball team got back on track in an 81-63 win over Wayne State on Thursday.

After suffering its second loss in conference play on Saturday to Ashland, the Bulldogs responded in impressive fashion with three players scoring in double figures.

FSU was led by Nikki Arner with 27 points on 11-of-19 shooting. Sarah DeShone added 18 points and 10 assists, while Tricia Principe contributed 15 points.

The Bulldogs held Wayne State to 38 percent shooting on the evening, while shooting an efficient 47 percent offensively.

The Bulldogs led 37-33 at the half, but used a 44-30 advantage after the break to put the game away.

FSU held a 38-33 advantage on the glass in the win, while causing 17 Wayne State turnovers on defense.

Wayne State was led by Paige Sickmiller with 22 points, while Phaebre Colbert added 13 points in a losing effort.

FSU (17-5, 14-2) now leads the GLIAC North by three games over Michigan Tech with three regular season games remaining.
