County commissioners to consider emergency planning appointments

BIG RAPIDS — Mecosta County Board of Commissioners will hear a recommendation on Thursday to appoint several members to the emergency planning team.

Nine law enforcement, damage assessment and fire department officials throughout the county will be recommended as representatives to the Local Emergency Planning Team.

Some will be the primary representative to regional planning committees, while others are alternates and some hold both positions.

If approved, the representatives will consider available grants and administer the funds to various emergency agencies across the county. They also review individual plans in case of county emergencies.

Commissioners also will consider whether to allow Shawn Sredersas, Mecosta County Meals Program Coordinator, to attend a Meals on Wheels Association of America annual conference in August. Sredersas has been asked to present a class on building stronger senior citizen programs at the conference.

The commissioners meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Mecosta County Building, located at 400 Elm St. in Big Rapids.
