Derek Camilleri completes Airman Leadership School

Air Force Staff Sgt. Derek S. Camilleri completed Airman Leadership School at Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D., as a distinguished graduate. Distinguished graduates rank in the top 10 percent of their class, recognizing high achievement based on total accumulation of academic and leadership points.

The five-week course focuses on preparing and better equipping senior airmen to serve as supervisors, managers and rating officials as they progress in their enlisted military careers. It is the first of three levels of professional military education programs used to develop and cultivate leadership and supervisory skills, and is a required course for airmen to complete prior to being promoted the rank of staff sergeant.

Airmen learn to understand their positions in the Air Force organizational structure, leadership and communication skills, and the need for professional development to be effective noncommissioned officers.

Camilleri is a security forces noncommissioned officer assigned to the 28th Bomb Wing at Ellsworth Air Force Base. He has served in the military for four year.

He is the son of Ronald and Rebecca Camilleri of Big Rapids.
