BIG RAPIDS — Nearly 30 dogs and their owners gathered on Saturday at the Brutus Dog Park to receive a special blessing.

The Rev. Laurel Dahill, of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, offered a prayer to protect the local canine companions during the Blessing of the Animals and Feast of St. Francis Day. The Big Rapids Department of Public Safety horse, Boomer, and photos of two dogs also were blessed at the event.

Dahill offered the blessing, and doggie treats, as a ministry to pet owners. She has been performing the Blessing of the Animals for three years and says pet owners really appreciate the opportunity to have their pets blessed.
