PIONEER ENDORSEMENT – U.S. HOUSE: Keep Camp in Washington

Although he does not face a serious challenger this election cycle, we feel obliged to ask you to support U.S. Rep. Dave Camp, R-Midland.

Under Camp’s leadership, the 4th Congressional District, and all of Michigan, have had a strong, thoughtful advocate working for them as the head of the Committee on Ways and Means.

Dave Camp

His committee has sole jurisdiction over tax policy and oversees tariff and trade laws, Medicare, Social Security, and welfare and unemployment programs.

Camp also continues to work diligently on the initiative that means the most to him and voters – a simplification of America’s tax code.

Unlike others in Congress, Camp’s influence can be found locally. He helped secure federal dollars to expand the HVAC facilities at Ferris State University and has worked with Wolverine Worldwide and Bates Footwear to get more than $2 million in Department of Defense contracts.

He also worked with Big Rapids and state officials to help secure funding for an expansion of the municipal airport.

Camp was a key member in negotiating the 1996 welfare reform, passed the 1997 Adoption and Safe Families Act and the 2003 Adoption Promotion Act. Camp also was a key player in helping design the Pension Protection Act, a huge benefit to several of Michigan’s employers and their workers.

Camp’s many accomplishments have been covered in the pages of the Pioneer for two decades.

We admire his relentless work ethic and strong, conservative leadership style. We don’t really get to say this very often about today’s political leaders, but it might be the highest complement we can pay him – Dave Camp is a good man.

Michigan needs Camp working for us in Washington D.C.

Vote for Camp on Nov. 6.
