MARY SULLIVAN-PONDELL: Wouldn’t it be wonderful if politicians could work together?

TO THE EDITOR:

On Wednesday morning, as I was watching the election results on TV, I had two main thoughts.

First, I am sickened by the analysis of votes, supposedly according to race, ethnic group, etc. This further divides our United States! Second, when I vote I attempt to prepare and make my decisions based on what my brain tells me. I refuse to vote for someone based on my race, nationality, religion, profession, age, where I reside, etc.

We have just had four divided years where less could be accomplished. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the Congress could work with the President, forgetting political parties?

The time is now.

On Wednesday morning, as I was watching the election results on TV, I had two main thoughts.
First, I was encouraged that Americans had survived the largest test to it well-being in my lifetime. With corporations being treated as humans and allowed to privately and secretly bankroll its agendas the majority of the people did not roll over and accept the obstructionist excuses.

Second, being an independent at heart knowing there is so much work that needs to be done. Shame you could not have added in your letter that you refuse to vote for someone based on party affiliation.

I am sickened by the faux affront that people could not see a party failing to change, welcome, and incorporate minorities on such a wide spectrum. Doesn’t your brain tell you there is a problem with your party when 93% of African-Americans vote for your opponent? Can you really convince yourself they vote as a block because our president is dark toned? Does that excuse work to explain the 71% Hispanic and 73% Asian vote as well? How about the 55% female vote? Seems you are sickened more by the results showing that the divided four years you reference was caused more by your party than the incumbent.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you would encourage Congress… to accept and work with the President, and forget political allegiances? The time for that is now.
