MECOSTA – Every seat in the Blue Lake Tavern was full on Saturday, as the recently-renovated bar and grill continued its weekend-long grand opening.

Formerly the Northern Shores Supper Club, Bob Beardsley and Sue Waterman bought the restaurant, located at 9965 11 Mile Road in Mecosta, in March and spent the past months remodeling it.

After a soft opening on Dec. 14 and 15, word spread and people from Mount Pleasant, Big Rapids and the more immediate Mecosta area flocked to see what the new tavern was about, with 200 diners showing up Friday and more than 400 arriving Saturday night.

“We were really busy for our soft opening, but not as busy as we are now,” Beardsley said on Saturday. “Word got around. The response has been overwhelmingly positive.”

The Blue Lake Tavern features live music on weekend nights, karaoke on Thursdays and is offering a New Year’s Eve special. For more information, visit the tavern’s Facebook page, “Blue Lake Tavern,” or call (231) 359-1111.
