BIG RAPIDS — Tennis fans young and old visited the Ferris State Racquet and Fitness Center on Saturday to test out the newly resurfaced courts.

Residents could try the new 2013 Wilson line of racquets, while playing on the resurfaced courts inside the racquet and fitness center.

Testing out the new courts among a group of students, Ferris sophomore Jordan Helderman enjoyed the upgrades to the facility.

“I love them,” Helderman said of the new courts. “I just made the (Ferris tennis) team, so I’ll be here like every day.”

Games, tournaments and prizes were given to those who participated in tennis target practice. Community members were introduced to Ferris’ new assistant tennis coach and assistant tennis pro Jamie Nanez.

The event kicked-off the winter tennis session at the Racquet and Fitness Center, which begins today and runs through March 1.
