Classic car show brings plenty as Riverday events continue into the weekend

BIG RAPIDS — A&W was transported back back in time on Friday night as classic cars stopped in for food and good times with friends.

The Car Cruise featured members of the River Valley Car Club and others and was a part of the annual Riverdays Festival.

For Rob Young and his son, Reegan Young, it was a chance to show off some of their hard work on their 1970 Malibu.

CHECKING IT OUT: New friends and old check out cars during the Car Cruise at A&W on Friday night. The event was a part of the annual Riverdays Festival.

Rob Young purchased the vehicle this year and Reegan, 9, will help work on it until Reegan can eventually drive it.

“That’s the plan, we’ll  work on it the next six years together,” Rob Young said. “We’re going to spend a lot of hours working on it.”

Crowds parked their cars, walked around, met new friends and grabbed a bite to eat as they spent the evening at the eatery.

Paul Cole brought his 1966 Chevelle SS he completed restoring in the spring, after four years of work.

“I love it because it’s got that rectangle shape from 1966 and I just thinks it looks cool when it’s sitting,” he said.

Riverfest, a five-day festival, began Thursday night and continued into Friday with the All City Yard Sale and other events.

Weekend events include a 5K, used book sale, craft show and another classic car show, among other things.

Cole said the festival has a bit of everything.

“Everybody comes out,” he said, adding that it’s great because the events are so close to each other.
