Roses and thorns

ROSES

… to all the Ferris students coming back to town to start classes for another school year. Welcome! We hope you not only have a productive year of studies, but that you enjoy your time in our community as well.

… to the folks at Habitat for Humanity on the opening of their new resale shop in Stanwood. We’re sure the goods will be put to good use.

… to the Big Rapids municipal government on the promise to increase blight ordinance enforcement in this community. Hopefully the promise will translate into action. Lord knows there is some blight around town.

… to Big Rapids firefighters for the time and effort spent raising funds for the fight against Muscular Dystrophy. They raised more than $3,500 in the Fill The Boot campaign. Good show!

… to the Band of Locals team — continuing to promote local shopping and a stronger sense of

community.

THORNS

… to those few (and I do mean FEW), returning Ferris students who figure they simply must celebrate their first week away from home getting drunk and stupid. C’mon kids. You’re supposed to be grown ups now. At the very least, don’t be busting up stuff that isn’t yours.
