135 residents cleanup Big Rapids Township

BIG RAPIDS TWP. — Big Rapids Township officials have declared the annual fall cleanup a success, after 135 residents dropped off scrap, metal, garbage, lumber, oil and batteries.

Township Supervisor Bill Stanek said the event, on Sept. 14 at the township’s industrial park, was “very positive.”

“I was very pleased,” he said. “It was quite impressive.”

Stanek said he wasn’t sure what to expect, as this is the first year he’s participated in the event. Twenty-two vehicles with loads were lined up as the even began in 8 a.m.

“Some people bring trailer loads, some bring items in their cars,” he said, adding that he sent 1,200 letters to residents before the event.
