BIG RAPIDS – The Senior Outings and Recreation Group enjoyed a day of pampering at the Mecosta-Osceola Career Center on Tuesday.

Seniors could choose to have their hair washed, cut and styled in the Career Center salon or receive a manicure or pedicure.

Mary Drews decided to get her first pedicure.

“It’s been wonderful,” Drews said of the experience. “My feet were hurting. I can’t trim my toenails anymore and my daughter and my granddaughter are afraid to because they are afraid they will cut my toes.”

Lorraine Parker had her hands dipped in Paraffin wax, which moisturizes hands, before getting her nails painted.

“I have arthritis and this feels good,” Parker said, adding that she chose to get a French manicure. “I’ll be looking good with no place to go.”

Glenna Wallace also got a manicure and said she was impressed with the students’ work.

“We like coming here,” Wallace said. “They pamper us and treat us like queens.”

The SOAR trip also visited the MOCC in May. It’s an outing many seniors look forward to throughout the year.

“I woke up at 4 a.m. this morning and thought, ‘Oh boy!’” Drayton said as she got her hair cut. “I don’t know what she’s doing. I told her she can do anything, as long as she makes me beautiful.”

After everyone was treated to some pampering in the Touch of Class salon, they headed to The Starting Place, where MOCC culinary arts students prepared and served a meal to the seniors.

“They give you so much food,” Wallace said. “It’s always good.”
