Police search for man who allegedly attempted to abduct young girl

MONTCALM COUNTY — Deputies from the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office are looking for a man who allegedly attempted to abduct and 8-year-old Howard City girl on Sunday.

According to police, the girl was walking on Amy School Road around 3 p.m., on her way to a friend’s house, when she was approached by a vehicle driven by a man. The driver allegedly told the girl her aunt was in the hospital and told her to “get in.” She refused and continued to her destination. The suspects vehicle drove away southbound from the scene.

Police say the suspect is a heavyset male in his late 20s or early 30s, bald, and has a beard. He was last seen wearing a black tank top and a camouflage zip-up hooded sweatshirt. He was driving a newer, full-sized red truck with a standard cab, possibly a Ford.

The girl was not harmed during the incident, which remains under police investigation.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Michigan State Police Lakeview Post.
