Mecosta County Genealogical Society announces summer hours

BIG RAPIDS — The Mecosta County Genealogical Society is preparing for summer with new operating hours.

The society will be open from 5 to 7 p.m. every Wednesday evening starting May 7 until the end of September. It is also open on the second Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The office is located at 424 N. Fourth Ave. in Big Rapids, next to the recycling center.

The volunteer group seeks and maintains family histories, scrapbooks, historical articles and obituaries from the Mecosta County area. They have more thaan 18,000 obits and more than 50 binders and books in their collection. The group also has a Pioneer Certificate program to honor descendants of Pioneer families that lived in Mecosta County prior to December 31, 1899. Bring a group to browse, research or volunteer.
