Party in the infield

infield party previewBIG RAPIDS – The Seventh Annual Infield Party will raise money to benefit Mecosta County during this year’s Celebrity Harness Race at the Mecosta County Agriculture Free Fair.

Held on the infield at the Mecosta County Fairgrounds in Big Rapids, the party begins at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, and features music, a “pot of gold” raffle and a best-dressed derby attire contest.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased from any of this year’s celebrity racers or at the gate. The ticket provides entry to the races, appetizers and access to the cash bar.

“All the money that’s raised that night stays in Mecosta County,” said Melissa Scheible, one of the party
organizers.

Attire at the Infield Party will be casual, but those who attend are encouraged to dress in their best derby outfit if they wish to participate in the contest.

“It’s a fun excuse to dress up, but people shouldn’t worry if they don’t have any derby attire,” Scheible said.

According to Stacy Chaput, another organizer, the event food will be sponsored by Buffalo Wild Wings. Fairman’s Apparel of Big Rapids will also be donating prizes for the best-dressed contest.

This year’s participants in the Celebrity Harness Race come from the United Way of Mecosta-Osceola, Friends of Ferris, the St. Mary-St. Paul Parish, the Shamrock Invitational and the Mecosta County Area Chamber of Commerce.
