EVART — Riding on the success of two previous basket auctions, staff of the Evart Public Library are hosting its third annual event.

“People really love it,” said library director Lilas VanScoyoc. “People are here by the droves on the last day trying to outbid each other.”

The silent auction will take place from Monday, Dec. 1, through Thursday, Dec. 11. More than 60 baskets will be available for bidding, filled with a variety of items. Many baskets have specific themes, including food, children, sports, relaxation, chocolate, reading or gardening.

“We’ve got a big variety of baskets,” VanScoyoc added. “They are donated by friends of the library, staff and some of the businesses in town.”

Interested patrons can view and bid on the baskets during the library’s open hours. On the first day of bidding, punch and cookies will be offered. Money raised from the event will benefit the library and assist in operating costs. Last year, the event raised more than $1,800.

Bidding will end at noon on Dec. 11 and winners can pick up their baskets once bidding is closed.

The Evart Public Library is located at 104 N. Main St. For more information about the basket auction, call the Evart Public Library at (231) 734-5542.
