10 FSU football players named All-Americans

BIG RAPIDS — Although National Signing Day is only five days away, the Ferris State University football program continues to receive outstanding recognition from a historic 2014 campaign as the Bulldogs had eight individuals chosen to the USA College Football Division II All-America Team.

The USA College Football All-America squad is based on selection input from American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) members, NCAA Division II conferences, head coaches, sports information directors along with national, regional and local broadcast and print media from across the country in addition to the staff of the USA Football Network, Inc.

Ferris State’s honorees on the USA College Football squad included a pair of first-team selections in junior quarterback and 2014 Harlon Hill Trophy recipient Jason Vander Laan and with senior offensive tackle Jacob VanderKlok.

Additionally, FSU had three individuals claim honorable mention laurels in junior offensive guard Cody Dingeldey, senior defensive end Carlton Johnson and sophomore punter Trevor Bermingham.

Finally, a trio of Bulldogs were named to the All-Freshman All-America team, including tailback Jahaan Brown, linebacker Nick Huckabay and safety KC Zenner.

The eight All-America recipients on the USA College Football squad bring FSU’s total number of All-Americans to 10 for the 2014 season as senior center Justin Glover and junior defensive end Justin Zimmer were previously recognized by multiple sources. A handful of other individuals have also claimed all-conference and/or all-region recognition, including a total of 16 all-league recipients this past fall.
