BIG RAPIDS — Administration and staff at the Mecosta-Osceola Intermediate School District Career Center know how to show appreciation to their students, and it comes in the form of ice cream.

Throughout the month of February, students and staff at the career center had been participating in Career and Technical Education Month.

Wrapping up the month, staff wanted to show their appreciation by serving ice cream to their students.

“It’s a fun way for the kids to know our friendly side and it gives us the opportunity to build relationships with them,” said Mike Miller, principal of the career center.

During the month, many events took place, including a Scholarship Scuffle, where students competed for $1,000 scholarships. There also was a day where the teachers invited alumni from different programs to talk to the students about how they applied their skills into life after the career center.

“We did a lot of events intended to connect students to their future after the career center,” said Miller. “That could be post-secondary education, going into the workforce or using the training they have gained here and applying it out in the real world.”
