BIG RAPIDS — Con Brio Voce Chamber Brass will perform a concert at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, at the Big Rapids High School Auditorium, 21175 15 Mile Rd., Big Rapids.

The concert is free to the public.

Comprised of 30 brass musicians and percussionists, the musical ensemble is in its eighth season. Many group members are current or former music educators from area schools, as well as several talented community members and advanced high school musicians. The group is under the direction of Kent Boulton.

“In keeping with our tradition, we are offering a wide variety of music on this program,” Boulton said. “We are reaching back as far back as the 16th century to include a work by Gabrieli written for double brass choir, and to a work written as recently as the mid/late 20th century and many musical representations in between.”

Also featured on the program will be the Con Brio Voce percussion section performing two of Erik Satie’s “Gymnopedies” as arranged by principal percussionist, Ron Rizzo. Additional music on the program includes “Flourish for Brass” by Ralph Vaughan Williams, “Prelude Siciliano” and “Rondo” by Malcolm Arnold, “Largo from Symphony No. 9” by Antonin Dvorak, “Pavanne” by Morton Gould and more.
