Nutrition tip #20: Swap it out

Submitted by MSU Extension

Each day during March, Michigan State University Extension is offering a health tip in honor of National Nutrition Month.

Use plain Greek yogurt to make salad dressings, dips, or as a topping to a baked potato. There is more calcium and protein in this option than the traditional sour cream.

Use applesauce or fruit puree in place of oil when baking. Use low fat or fat-free milk in place of whole milk or heavy cream. Use whole wheat pasta or bread or brown rice instead of the refined grain options.

Always check with your doctor before making any health changes. For more information, contact MSU Extension at (231) 592-0792.
