Nutrition tip #23: Make mealtimes a happy experience

Each day during March, Michigan State University Extension is offering a health tip in honor of National Nutrition Month.

Get rid of distractions during mealtime, focus on your food and your family. Avoid using mealtime to bring up the broken washing machine or the low grade in math.

The more distracted we are the less we pay attention to how much we are eating. When arguments or nagging are served up with the mashed potatoes, food may then become a way to feel better emotionally.

Keep mealtime relaxed and positive to avoid overeating.
