BIG RAPIDS  — A quiet stillness took over the Big Rapids High School Auditorium on Saturday evening, with the only sound and movement coming from the stage, as audience members were captivated by the performance before them.

As part of the 2016 Festival of the Arts, the H2 Dance Company performed, showcasing its repertoire by dancing eight different numbers. H2 Dance Company is a pre-professional dance company affiliated with the Hope College Dance Department. All 18 members of the company – 17 women and one man – are students at Hope College.

“We’re excited to have H2 Dance Company here. I know it will be a wonderful evening of dancing styles sure to delight everyone,” said Courtney Gilson- Piercey, festival board member, prior to the show beginning.

During Saturday’s show, the group danced in various styles, including hip hop, ballet, tap dancing and more. Audience members young and old were mesmerized, glued to their seats and waiting for the next number after offering loud rounds of applause.

Musical selections to go with the dance numbers also varied, with unique selections along with familiarity, such as Kelly Clarkson’s version of “My Favorite Things,” from The Sound of Music.

Big Rapids was one of the five cities where the company is stopping at as part of a tour. The company also will perform in August at the 2016 Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland.
