LEROY — Reed City right-hander Logan Straub threw a strong complete game against Mason County Central on Tuesday, but it wasn’t enough in a 2-1 loss in a Division 3 pre-district game at Pine River.

The season ends for Reed City (14-21), while MCC faces Pine River on Saturday in a district semifinal. Straub only allowed two hits, but the Spartans benefited from two errors to score both of their runs in the first inning.

“Logan pitched well,” Reed City coach Marty Shaffer said. “He has done that all year long. We just didn’t hit the ball.”

Cameron Austin had two hits for the Coyotes. Alex Brummel and Derrick Rasor also had hits.

Reed City, trailing 2-0, threatened in the bottom of the seventh but fell short. Rasor reached base after getting hit by a pitch to open the inning. He advanced on Austin’s single and scored on a double steal, but the tying run was stranded in scoring
position.

The game took less than 90 minutes to play.

The Spartans advance with a 22-8 record.

Trevor Carrier was the winning pitcher.

“He did a wonderful job throwing strikes and getting people out, that’s what we needed from him,” MCC coach Don Thomas said.”’He’s been our ace all year.”

Shaffer said his team will be playing in a summer league and will come out with a schedule next week.

“I think we’ll play Tuesdays and Thursdays, maybe a couple of Sundays,” Shaffer said.
