MORLEY  — Evart’s volleyball team has struggled with serving and serve receive throughout the season, and that was the case again on Monday in a 3-0 Class C district loss to White Cloud.

The Indians prevailed over the Wildcats 25-16, 25-12, 25-7.

“We played OK,” Evart coach Katie Nostrant said. “We missed a lot of serves.  We probably would have been closer.”

The first game was close at 11-10, White Cloud, before Corissa Johnson served up two aces to lead the team to a commanding 21-11 advantage.

Felicia Nelson served up an ace for Evart to make it 23-16. But White Cloud’s Olivia Bowman had an ace for the Indian’s 25th point and a 1-0 lead.

Livia Hopkins had a block in the second game for Evart, which trailed 15-7. But Isabel Karnes had an ace and kill for a 24-12 White Cloud lead, and Bowman followed with an ace.

Cyana Dellar had a tip, Danielle Conklin a kill and Nelson an ace in the third set to keep Evart close, trailing 18-13. Johnson had a kill for White Cloud’s 24th point and a hitting error by Evart ended the match.

“Our passing could have been better,” sophomore setter McKenzie Kimball said. “It was good. We did a good job. We didn’t know how they played coming in so we had to adjust a little bit.”

Evart had not won a match in 2015, but showed improvement this season and had two victories.

“Our main goal was scoring more points than we had before,” Nostrant said. “Our players fought really hard and played well.”

This season’s team only had three seniors, with one of those being a foreign exchange student. Several players will return and Nostrant is looking for them to do as much offseason work as possible.

White Cloud plays Lakeview 7 p.m. on Wednesday in a semifinal match. Morley Stanwood is facing Pine River at 5:30 p.m. The final is 6 p.m. on Thursday.
