Festival of Lights illuminates Big Rapids

“Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful.”

— Norman Vincent Peale

And so, Big Rapids becomes a little softer and even more beautiful than we think it generally is.

Tomorrow, area residents and visitors to the Big Rapids community will celebrate the annual Festival of Lights parade.

This is a wonderful time of year, and the Festival of Lights is a great expression of seasonal joy. Children and adults alike will line Michigan Avenue and be spellbound by the passing waves of light and holiday cheer.

What a great way to kick off the Christmas holiday season!

A lot of work goes into both organizing the Festival of Lights parade and in preparing to be active participants.

Dozens of individuals, churches, organizations and businesses put in a lot of time and effort while creating floats and decorating vehicles. It all comes together as a joyful display and something folks — especially young folks — will talk about for weeks to come.

The Festival of Lights team, and all of those involved — either directly or on the sidelines — deserve a hearty words of thanks from each and every one of us lining the street and enjoying the results of their dedication of purpose and community spirit.

To all who spent hours festooning their floats with thousands of cheerful, flickering Christmas lights, and to all those who worked so long and hard behind the scenes to make sure this all takes place tomorrow evening – THANK YOU!!!

While it too often may not be said or expressed – folks really do appreciate the effort.

Thank you all… and Merry Christmas and a happy holiday season to all.
