Breastfeeding workshop set for Dec. 6, in Baldwin

BALDWIN — Business owners are invited to learn how to make their businesses more accommodating for breastfeeding mothers.

The Business of Breastfeeding workshop is the first of many presentations the Baldwin Rotary Club is hosting free of charge on topics of interest to the community, said Rotarian Leo Heska.

Presenters, Sally Mellema and Colleen Unsal, from the Baldwin Health Department, will present the workshop from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the St. Ann’s Community Room located at 740 Ninth St., Baldwin. A condensed program also will take place from noon to 1 p.m. the same day at the Baldwin Rotary Club meeting in the Pere Marquette Room at Pompeii’s.

Points of discussion will include how supporting breastfeeding in the workplace can reduce absenteeism, increase productivity and loyalty, gain a potential three-to-one return on investment for businesses and promote a positive image for businesses.

Information will be provided on state and federal law, simple workplace solutions and more. Each participant will receive a business toolkit and other materials to help make workplaces and/or businesses breastfeeding friendly.
