BIG RAPIDS — Voca Lyrica, Big Rapids’ preeminent women’s choir, will present its 16th annual holiday concert at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, in the Big Rapids High School Auditorium.

Founding Artistic Director Ginny Kerwin will conduct the ensemble in a program of sacred and secular works to evoke the Christmas spirit.

A special feature of the evening will be the premiere performance of “Psalm 150,” a new work by Michigan composer Brandon Ulrich. Ulrich, who will be present at the concert to conduct his new composition, wrote the piece especially for Kerwin.

The evening’s performance also includes Voca Lyrica’s pianist, Dr. Sheryl Iott; the Big Rapids Area Youth Choir under the direction of Jeanna Lamar; the Con Brio Voce Brass Quintet conducted by Brian Balch; Lyrics in Motion, the liturgical dance ensemble from Big Rapids First United Methodist Church; and storyteller Robert Hampson recounting “The Night Before Christmas.”

Courtney Piercey will direct the Reed City United Methodist Church Chancel Choir in pre-concert caroling. A reception will follow the concert.

Tickets can be purchased at Great Lakes Book and Supply, the Old Pioneer Store and Emporium, Patterson’s Flowers, from choir members, or at the door.
