Genealogical Society to host holiday event on Dec. 10

BIG RAPIDS — People looking for a break from holiday shopping or searching for a special gift for a relative will have a chance to stop in at the Mecosta County Genealogical Society for its eighth annual “Home for the Holidays” event.

The more than 650 books of information will be on display and coffee will be available. This event will help showcase more than area genealogy, with information on schools, churches, businesses and other area entities in scrapbooks and more.

“People can take a break from shopping and look over the history of the area,” said Maureen Nelson, society president and event organizer.

Some individuals may qualify for a Pioneer Certificate, which would make a good gift, Nelson said. The Pioneer Certificate is given to people who can prove they had relatives in Mecosta County before 1900.

Home for the Holidays will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 424 N. Fourth Ave. For more information, call Nelson at (231) 250-5555.
