BIG RAPIDS —  The Ferris State University men’s basketball squad, which captured its third-straight Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Championship on Sunday, had three players named to the 2017 GLIAC All-Tournament Team following the conclusion of the league’s postseason event.

FSU’s lone senior, guard Quentin Ruff (Elgin, Ill.), was chosen as the league tournament Most Valuable Player after leading the Bulldogs with a game-high 28 points and seven made three’s in Sunday’s 80-79 victory over Ashland inside FSU’s Jim Wink Arena. He also had a team-best 17 points in Saturday’s semifinal win over Michigan Tech.

Additionally, sophomore center Zach Hankins (Charlevoix) and junior guard Drew Cushingberry (Romeo) both also garnered all-tournament team accolades.

Hankins posted back-to-back double-double performances in the two weekend contests to conclude the event while Cushingberry scored in double-figures all three rounds of the league tourney, including a game-high 26 points in an exciting 87-84 home quarterfinal win over Hillsdale on Feb. 28 when he hit three free throws to win the game with 1.4 seconds remaining.

Along with the three Bulldogs selections, runner-up Ashland placed two on the GLIAC All-Tournament Team in Marsalis Hamilton and Boo Osborne with Findlay’s Elijah Kahling and Kyle Monroe of Michigan Tech also named to the squad.

By winning Sunday’s league tournament, Ferris State received the GLIAC’s automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Tournament and will be the No. 2 seed for the Midwest Regional to be hosted by Bellarmine University in Louisville, Ky. FSU will face seventh-seeded Truman State (Mo.) on Saturday  in regional quarterfinal-round play.
