Osceola County officials to hear VoIP update

REED CITY — In late February, the Osceola County Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of a Voice over Internet Protocol phone system.

Commissioners are expected to hear an update on the installation of the phone system from Jive Communications at their Committee of the Whole meeting at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 4, at the Osceola County Courthouse.

VoIP technology allows people to make voice calls using a broadband internet connection instead of a regular phone line.

The committee also will hear an update on the Commission on Aging’s ongoing renovation project in Marion. At the March 7 meeting, COA Director Scott Schryer told commissioners the plan is for the building to be open as a meal and activities site in early May.

The committee is expected to discuss the following items Tuesday:

  • An easement for its electric facilities on Professional Drive;
  • An amendment to the Area Agency on Aging of West Michigan Purchase of Service agreement with the COA; and
  • The EMS department’s Spectrum Health Educational agreement.
