EVART — Three baseball teams braved the elements in Saturday’s Osceola County Royal Rumble Tournament at Evart with Pine River emerging as the first-place team.

The Bucks opened with a 3-1 win over Evart. Tristen Nelson was the winning pitcher, going five innings, striking out three and allowing one walk. Mason Powell had two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Andrew Park had two hits and two RBIs.

Pine River also defeated Reed City 4-3. Powell went one inning on the mound and took the win. Luke Hill started and went the first five innings. Powell was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Raden Holmes had two doubles and an RBI. Braden Holmes had two hits.

“Overall, I was pretty happy, especially with how we pitched,” Pine River coach Shawn Ruppert said.

The Bucks are 12-2.

For Evart in the loss to Pine River, Cameron Martin had a double and single, Garrett Johnson had two singles and Karsten Allen, Billy Conklin and Carter Pritchard had singles.

The Wildcats beat Reed City 8-7. Allen, Trevin Ladd and Layne Nadig had singles. Conklin had a single and an RBI, Dorn had a single and two RBIs.

Winning pitcher Wil Weinberg allowed four walks, two hit batsmen and struck out two.

“There were just a few miscues on defense all day,” Evart coach Josh Johnson said. “Overall, I was very happy with our defense. Our pitchers are walking too many batters. Offensively we are leaving too many guys on base. We had our chances against PR.”

Evart’s record is now 4-7.

Evart is at Lake City,  Pine River at McBain and Reed City home with Tri County in Tuesday action.
