Local campers win wards at Salvation Army Divisional Music Camp

BIG RAPIDS — The Salvation Army of Big Rapids has announced four campers won distinguished awards at this year’s Salvation Army Divisional Music Camp.

This year’s music camp attendees included campers from throughout The Salvation Army’s Western Michigan and Northern Indiana division. Shelby Fate, a Crossroads Charter Academy student, was selected for the Commissioners Award for Top Camper, earning her a full scholarship to The Salvation Army’s Central Music Institute.

This year, all campers are attending Salvation Army Summer Camps thanks to the Mecosta-Osceola United Way and local support from the community.

Local award winners include:

• Kia Young, first place soloist, Festival Choir

• Shari Fate, second place overall, Festival Band

• Nyeannie Reeves, second place soloist, Festival Band; first place overall, Festival Band

• Shelby Fate, first place soloist, Festival Band; Commissioner’s Award Top Camper (comes with a scholarship to The Salvation Army’s Central Music Institute)
