Lake County Sportsmen continue work on their clubgrounds

Lake County Sportsman Club is offering a pistol range.

BALDWIN — It was another busy work bee on Monday for the Lake County Sportsman Club.

Members were working on the club’s site off of Mckinley Road, just off from Baldwin Road.

The club has been developing the site for more than three years.

“(On Monday), we’ve been trimming up the road,” club president Greg Nichols said. “What we have accomplished in the past month is on the ranges. We have 100 and 200-yard range and have heightened the berms by at least 15 feet. All the berms and the pistol range and the rifle ranges of the 100-, 200- and 300 have been heightened by at least a minimum of 10 feet and some 15 feet. The pistol and rifle ranges are completed and work has started on the trap and skeet range.”

Roads have been graded and the trail is available around the facility. Grass has been seeded. A firepit is also in, plus benches for siting in rifles.

The club will have a rifle siting-in day on Nov. 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost will be $5 per person.

“This year is the year we’ve done the most work on this,” Nichols said. “We’d like to thank our sponsors with Mike at Ace Hardware, Tim Steele and all of our members for putting in the hours and time. I’d like the thank Chuck Barron and his son for running the equipment to get the pistol and rifle ranges in and Tim Steele for all the equipment he’s allowed us to use.”

Members can use the ranges anytime. People can become members by entering the Lake County Sportsman Club website and also The Lake County Sportsman’s Club Facebook page.

The club will probably close for the season in early November and will reopen in the spring.

“We’ve accomplished quite a lot in the last month,” Nichols said.

The club’s steak fry is 5-7 p.m. on Nov. 14 at the Baldwin VFW Post. A raffle grand prize is offered with a manager’s hunt at the Two Hats Ranch. Persons don’t have to be present to win the raffle.
