BRPS board approves coaches, recognizes principals

BIG RAPIDS — With the football and soccer seasons beginning to wind down at Big Rapids Public Schools, board members are looking forward to the winter sports.

During its meeting on Monday, the BRPS Board of Education approved five varsity coaches for the winter, including Kent Ingels, boys basketball; Jessica Haist, girls basketball; Tim Blashill, hockey; and Kelsey Senyk, cheerleading. Each of these coaches have previously led BRPS teams. Board members also approved a new coach, Bruce Hoffman, wrestling.

Board members also took a moment to recognize staff members who cheer students on at the sidelines and in the classrooms. October is National Principals Month.

“We want to make sure we take the opportunity to recognize the outstanding principals we have here at Big Rapids Public Schools,” said Superintendent Tim Haist. “We are fortunate to have a group of leaders who provide great support for our students, strive for excellence and make sure we continue to build relationships and provide a great education here at Big Rapids Public Schools.”

In other business:

• Board members heard from Michael Wyman, Fred Sharpsteen and Steve Locke, all of the Mecosta-Osceola Intermediate School District, about the ongoing search for the next superintendent, as well as Manufacturing Day, which took place on Friday, Oct. 6.

• Board members also heard from John Emmons talking about Constitution Day and Constitution Month.
