Community Giving Day is Thursday

BIG RAPIDS — The generosity of Mecosta County residents will be on display from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 2, at Community Giving Day.

Formerly known as Match Day and then Philanthropy Day, the event will be in a new location this year — the Miller Wing of the Mecosta-Osceola Career Center, 15830 190th Ave., Big Rapids.

Organized by the Mecosta County Community Foundation, Community Giving Day focuses on bringing donors and nonprofit organizations together and on raising funds for the various agencies that serve the residents of Mecosta County. When donors arrive, they will receive a brochure listing all the participating agencies, their mission statements and their upcoming projects.

“The idea was a donor might be coming for a particular agency, but this will let them know who is in the room so they can get to know the others and see what they do,” said Maria Gonzalez, foundation manager, in an earlier interview. “The Mecosta County Community Foundation itself will have a table, unlike in the past, and we will be accepting donations for our endowed funds and for our community needs fund, which serves all the nonprofits in Mecosta County.”

Community Giving Day is geared toward connecting donors directly with nonprofit organizations, both for raising money for the agencies’ work and to create a face-to-face opportunity for the staff and volunteers at each organization to meet with the community.
