Pastor David Stiles: Holiday loneliness can be avoided

We’re entering the holiday season. This should be a time of rejoicing and happiness. However, it is not always so, for many. The time of thanksgiving and joy in these days is marred by loneliness.

In a crowd of people some are feeling alone and neglected. This can be avoided by turning to a risen Saviour, Jesus Christ the Son of almighty God. You will never be alone with him as your Saviour.

Jesus said, “I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.”(John 14:18) First, we must confront our condition. We are sinners. We are guilty before a holy God. “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”(Rom 3:23)

Take the step of confessing your sin. Now, what should be done? Well, Jesus came from eternity past and took upon himself flesh to be our sacrifice on the cross. We celebrate this fact during the Christmas season. We should be thankful to God for his plan in our behalf. Because of this we exercise our faith in what Christ did for us on the cross. He shed his blood. Believe God today.

Paul told us in 2 Cor.6:18, “And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.”

When you put your faith in Christ, you become His child then. You are part of the family of God. You are saved by the grace of God.

We see what Isaiah said in Isa.43:4, “Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee:” “God is not willing that any should perish.”(2 Pet.3:9)

There is comfort in these words. When we are honest and face the fact we are sinners, we must put our faith in Christ. Do what’s right. Call on Him. Don’t wait. Don’t hesitate.

The Bible says, “Then shalt thou call, and the Lord shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am..”(Isa.58:9)

He is waiting for your call. Don’t endure loneliness when a loving Saviour is waiting to hear from you. You can enjoy the holiday season from Thanksgiving through Christmas the way He wants you to do it. Be filled with thanksgiving in prayer to Almighty God because you are his child. He wants your joy to overflow in appreciation to Christ. What a Saviour! We need to think on the God with solutions to our problems. Fellowship with him. As we read his word, we are comforted in knowledge of Him. As we pray, the Holy Spirit comes along side us. He tells us, it will be all right. Jesus is thinking of you.

The Bible says, “But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.”(Psa.40:17)

Come to Christ today. He loves you.
