BIG RAPIDS — The annual over-the-air cake auction to benefit United Way took place Nov. 20 and 21, bringing in a total of $7,010 toward the overall fundraising campaign goal of $450,000.

Bringing in the highest single bid was the “In Memory of Bill Beckwith” cake made by Mecosta-Osceola Intermediate School District Career Center culinary program students Heather Ostrander and Abagail Reddy. Pat Currie, with his “Horsing Around” cake, had the highest total bid, and the second-highest bid came in for Karen Bluhm’s “Aunt Dorothy’s Cake.” Both Currie and Bluhm brought more than one cake to sell.

The best cake presentation went to the MOISD students, best rookie award to Triple C Excavating and Molly Cataldo, Edward Jones; and Bluhm also took honors for the best story about her cake.
