Holiday genealogical event set for Dec. 9

BIG RAPIDS — For some Big Rapids residents, the holidays mean traveling to see relatives. On Saturday, Dec. 9, families may not have to travel too far to connect with their ancestors as the Mecosta County Genealogical Society is hosting its annual Home for the Holidays event.

From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, families can pick one of the hundreds of books full of old newspaper articles chronicling the residents, churches, schools and businesses of the Mecosta County area. Attendees also may bring a scrap book to make a copy of and to reminisce over at the society office, located at 424 N. Fourth Ave., Big Rapids. Volunteers will be on hand to help attendees look up their ancestors on Ancestry.com or other genealogical websites.

Christmas cookies, coffee and tea will be available during the event.
