BIG RAPIDS — After close to six months of searching, the Mecosta-Osceola Intermediate School District Board of Education has chosen the next person to take over leadership of the ISD.

On Wednesday, the board announced Steve Locke was selected to fill the superintendent position.

Tuesday evening the board hosted a second round of interviews, after narrowing four candidates down to three interviews on Saturday. The three remaining candidates each gave a presentation about where they see the ISD in the next five years, said MOISD Board of Education President Marie Wilkerson.

“These were candidates we could all work with,” Wilkerson said. “This has been a long process. It was not an easy decision.”

Locke, who is currently the Mecosta-Osceola Career Center Career and Technical Education director, will be taking over as superintendent in January.

“Steve is very passionate about education,” Wilkerson said. “He feels that all students should have a good education. He has worked very diligently on the Meceola Tech program. He has contacted legislators and has done a tremendous amount of work. We feel these leadership qualities will help us in moving forward.”

Locke will be the eighth superintendent of the MOISD.

“I am honored to have been selected to serve as the superintendent of the MOISD,” Locke said. “The members of the school board are deeply committed to the success of the organization and I am eager to begin working more closely with them to move our mission forward.

“I have been and continue to be impressed by the talent, commitment and professional practices of the MOISD staff. Without a doubt, our people care about students and families. I am also impressed with the knowledge base and experience of the local district superintendents and anticipate that we will be able to accomplish great things collaborating with one another.”
