FSU hockey alum Chad Billins named to Team USA Olympic roster

BIG RAPIDS — A Ferris State hockey alum is set to take the big stage.

Defenseman Chad Billins has been named to Team USA’s Olympic Hockey roster for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang County, South Korea.

A native of Marysville, Michigan, Billins captained the Bulldogs’ 2011-12 team that reached the national championship game at the NCAA Frozen Four.

Billins tallied 29 points and 24 penalty minutes in 43 games with the Bulldogs as a senior while earning American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-America Second Team honors. Overall, he played in 149 career games with Ferris State, notching 67 points (17-50—67) and 108 penalty minutes.

Billins went on to play for the Grand Rapids Griffins and helped the team earn a Calder Cup Championship in 2013.  In six seasons of professional play, he has suited up for the Calgary Flames (NHL), Grand Rapids Griffins, Abbotsford Heat and Utica Comets (AHL), CSKS Moskva (KHL), Lulea HF and Linkoping HC (SHL).

He has skated in two Deutschland Cups as a U.S. Men’s Select Team member, tallying one goal and three assists in six total international games.
