Ferris State basketball a consensus top 7 team in national rankings this week

BIG RAPIDS — The Ferris State University men’s basketball squad, which is off to a school all-time best 16-1 start this season, has moved up in the national rankings among the country’s best this week.

The Bulldogs climbed three spots in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II poll to #7 in the country following back-to-back Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) wins over Wayne State and Davenport last weekend.

Meanwhile, FSU also jumped to #6 in the nation in this week’s Division II Sports Information Directors (D2SIDA) National Rankings. The Bulldogs are second among all teams regionally in the D2SIDA poll behind nationally top-ranked Bellarmine (Ky.).

Presently, the Bulldogs are a consensus top seven team every poll as FSU is also fifth in the Massey Online Computer Ratings along with sixth in the Hero Sports Division II listing this week.

This week, Ferris State presently leads the nation in both total assists (341) and blocked shots (105) to date this season. FSU is also 10th in scoring margin (+16.7) and the Bulldogs are tied for the most wins in the nation with 16 to date this year.

Along with being 16-1 overall, the Bulldogs are presently tied atop the GLIAC with a 6-1 league record.

Ferris State returns home to host Michigan Tech on Thursday (Jan. 11) evening at 5:30 p.m. (ET) before wrapping up the two-game homestand against Northern Michigan on Saturday (Jan. 13) beginning at 1 p.m. (ET) inside Jim Wink Arena.

FSU will honor former head coach Tom Ludwig and players from the “Ludwig era” as part of a special Bulldog reunion on Saturday in Big Rapids.
