MORLEY — Breanna Berry’s sophomore season has been a good one so far for Morley Stanwood’s girls basketball team.

She’s been among the top scorers for a 5-5 Morley Stanwood team that has a Central State Activities Association Silver Division showdown on Friday at Kent City.

“We’re trying to focus on defense a lot in practice,” Berry said, noting it was a key factor in a loss to Central Montcalm.

Berry saw varsity experience as a freshman.

“I feel I’ve gotten more aggressive as a sophomore,” she said. “My role is kind of different. I’m handling the ball a little more than I did last year. I think I catch the (defense) off guard when I pass.”

The Mohawks entered the Kent City game 3-0 in the conference.

“We’re starting to mesh more together and play as a team,” Berry said. “We need to work on our defense and be ready all the time. I want to focus on my shot so I can hit more outside shots.”
