David Stiles: With Christ, you can truly have a happy new year

“Happy New Year!”

These words come out of our mouths very easily in this season. What can be done to help make them come true? Why should we believe they can in this world of chaos and confusion?

The year is before us with all of the misunderstandings, hateful statements and blindness, but take heart. There is a way that can be taken that will bear fruit. Take courage facing this new year. God loves you. What should we do? Seek the strength of God. God will strengthen us through his Son Jesus.

He says in Psalms 27:14, “Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.”

It is difficult to wait, when we feel alone in the world. Don’t quit on God. He is the source of all strength. The Psalmist in all his experience and armed with the message of God says wait on God. This is good advice for us, too.

This next statement is to all believers. If you are not a believer, take this year to trust Christ as your Saviour and receive all his benefits.

“For the Lord loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.”(Psa.37:28)

No matter what, God is faithful. He loves us. He doesn’t want us to be lost in hell. Christ came from eternity past to save us. Christ came to save sinners. We need to be grateful. Get your eternal future settled now. Put your faith in Christ. Having done that, charge on with him. Wait on the Lord in the face of challenges of life. Don’t be afraid. Look to God in this year.

“But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name, thou art mine.”(Isa.43:1).

What comfort we have at the hand of the Lord Jesus! He is our redeemer. We are bought by his shed blood on that cross where he paid our sin debt. No matter the threat, Christ is on our side. We have no need to fear. He loves us.

“Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.”(2 Kings 6:16)

We have the old testament for our learning. Pay attention and learn of God. We need to trust God.

We are told once again, “Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verilly thou shalt be fed.”(Psa.37:3)

We will be happy in this year as we trust the living Saviour. Where is your hope? In your own power, works, connections, or goodness? We are told in whom to place our faith.

“Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord.”(Psa. 31:24)

We may find ourselves on our last leg, yet God will not fail us nor leave us alone.

“He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.” (Isa. 40:29)

We are sinners in the place of need. We can’t save ourselves. We must look to the Lord Jesus Christ for his help. Christ the risen Saviour is alive at the right hand of God the Father pleading our cause.

Paul said, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”(Phil.4:13)

Paul faced many hardships in life, as we may. He found the answer to be almighty Son of God, Jesus Christ. Wake up America! Jesus is the answer to our problems. He will be with us through everything we may face this year. Take courage. He loves you. He will save you.

Jesus said,”Ye must be born again.” (Jn 3:3)

He is trying to help you. Will you listen? There will be mountains to climb and giants to defeat this year. Will you go alone? Or will you go with the God who loves and cares for you?

“The gift of God is eternal life through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Rom 6:23).

Trust him today. You can indeed have a happy new year if you are in Christ.
