SAULT STE. MARIE — Ferris State (10-14-1, 7-9-1) snapped a five-game losing streak with a 4-0 win over Lake Superior (5-16-4, 3-11-3) in Western Collegiate Hockey Association action on Friday.

Coale Norris scored in the first period for Ferris, while Corey Mackin and Nate Kallen converted in the second and Ryker Killins scored in the third. Goalie Darrin Smith had 27 saves.

The two teams play again Saturday at Lake Superior.


Big Rapids 65, Central Montcalm 50

STANTON — The Big Rapids boys basketball team led Central Montcalm 35-16 and cruised to a 65-50 win Friday at Central Montcalm High School.

Braeden Childress led all scorers with 16 points and Jakob Martinson had 15 while Kalib Robinson and Dorian Martin scored 10 points, rexpectyively.

“We played well early,” head coach Kent Ingles said. “We got off to a fast start and they couldn’t dig themselves out of the hole.”

Big Rapids (5-1, 4-1) faces Reed City (5-2, 4-1) at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Reed City High School.

Kent City 63, Morley Stanwood 33

KENT CITY — The Mohawks trailed 39-20 at halftime and couldn’t get over the hump against the Eagles on Friday night. Xavier Raven led the team with  nine points and Landon Elenbaas added eight.

The Mohawks (5-2, 3-1) play CCA on Tuesday at CCA.


Central Montcalm 48, Big Rapids 39

STANTON — The Cardinals suffered their first loss of the season to the undefeated Hornets Friday night in a CSAA Gold Clash.

Jayla Strickland led the team with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

The two teams were tied 13-13 after one quarter of play, but foul trouble in the second quarter led to Hornets run that the Cardinals couldn’t dig themselves out of.

The Cardinals (9-1, 4-1)face Reed City (9-0, 5-0) at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Reed City.
